TAHOE CITY, Calif. (AP) - Two people have been killed in a house
fire on Lake Tahoe's west shore.

Placer County Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Ausnow told the Sierra Sun
that the blaze broke out at a residence in the Sunnyside area of
Tahoe City before 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Sheriff's Sgt. John Giovannini says they have identified the
victims but are withholding the names pending notification of
family. He says a dog also died in the fire.

A neighbor, Belinda Davis, says the house was in flames when she
was awakened by her dog barking about 1:45 a.m. She says other
neighbors had already called 911 by then.

She told the Sun she thinks the victims were renting the home
and may have been a relatively young couple.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
