DOUGLAS COUNTY, NV - Two people have been arrested, charged with starting a fire in Douglas County that destroyed two homes and more than seven thousand acres.
Kim Carlin and Steve Cozad were arrested Thursday, accused of starting the Topaz Ranch Estates fire in may. They are charged with willful or negligent failure to guard or extinguish a fire. Both have been released on bail. They will appear in court August 27th for arraignment.
The cost of fighting the TRE fire is estimated at nearly three-and-a-half million dollars.
Investigators have said they believe it was started by a residential burn which was re-ignited by winds.
Carlin and Cozad each face a possible one-thousand-dollar fine and up to six months in jail if convicted.
