SPARKS, NV - Most of the residents evacuated from the Open Circles Apartment complex in Sparks are back home, but 12 families need to wait until a wall is rebuilt and new gas meters are installed.

Around 6:30AM Wednesday, a man driving a pickup backed up through a fence, over gas meters and into the wall of a building. The resulting gas leak led to the evacuation of four buildings, but the residents of three of them are already back home.

NV Energy shut off the gas quickly, but damage was extensive enough that construction is needed before that building can be reinhabited. An apartment spokesperson says that could be as soon as Thursday.

Nobody is hurt. The driver has been cited for careless driving, and driving without license or insurance.

Open Circles is on Merchant Street in Sparks.
