RENO, NV - A mother was arrested on multiple charges, including child endangerment, after authorities caught her driving erratically near downtown Reno. She says it was because she was arguing with her teen son.
It happened around 11:45AM Wednesday, when a trooper with the Nevada Highway Patrol observed a red Toyota 4-Runner SUV exit the freeway unsafely at the west bound offramp of the Keystone Avenue interchange on I-80.
The vehicle cut across the solid white lines at the top of the offramp and then was unable to maintain a single lane as it headed toward the intersection on Keystone Ave.
The SUV was on W. Seventh Avenue where the driver, 46-year-old Tina J. Kinsey of Reno, made an unsafe lane change by cutting off another driver, according to the NHP.
A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle yielded and pulled into an adjacent parking lot on W. Seventh Avenue where it stopped in a clearly marked handicap parking space.
Kinsey stated she was driving erratically as she was arguing with her 13-year-old son. While speaking to Kinsey, signs of drug impairment were observed and she was asked to complete a series of field sobriety tests. Upon failing those prescribed tests, she was placed under arrest for DUI-drugs with out incident and a custodial guardian was contacted to take custody of her son.
Prior to being placed into the patrol vehicle, she was discovered with: two hypodermic needles, one filled with suspected methamphetamine, were located in her jacket and several other small baggies with residue and small amounts of methamphetamine, along with multiple types of prescription pills without official packaging were located.
Additionally, in plain view on the front seat of her vehicle, was a prescription bottle without a label filled with 72 orange colored pills without any identifiers. Kinsey stated those were testosterone pills which belonged to her boyfriend that he had obtained in Mexico.
She was initially taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where she submitted to an evidentiary blood test before being transported and booked into the Washoe County jail on the following charges: Fail to maintain a Lane, Possession of Metamphetamine, Handicap parking, possession of Hypodermic Device, DUI-Drugs, Possession of Prescription Pills, Unsafe Lane Change, Drug Paraphernalia, Child Endangerment, crossing a Solid White Line.
Her total bail amount was listed at 16,305 dollars and she posted payment early Thursday morning and was released.
