RENO, Nev. -- There was a long-awaited reunion at Washoe County Regional Animal Services Saturday.
Desiree Parriott and her 3-year-old son, Gabe, drove to Reno from the Sacramento area. Their cat, Salem, went missing in January and the family had almost given up hope he'd be found.
Amazingly, a concerned citizen found him in the South Meadows area of Reno and took him in to Animal Services. Salem fortunately had a microchip, and that's what made this reunion possible.
Barry Brode, Director of Animal Services was happy the family was reunited with it pet, "It's a great reunion and this again shows the importance of having your pets micro-chipped."
Animal Services is offering free micro-chipping to all pet owners in Washoe County through January. So far, chips have been place in more than 4,500 pets.
