Reno, NV - There was heightened security at Washoe District Court as the three men charged in that deadly shooting at the Nugget appeared before a judge.
It was a hearing to decide the ground rules for the murder trial that is scheduled to begin in October.
Three men from two rival motorcycle gangs are charged in the deadly shootout that happened on September 23 during Street Vibrations. Gary Rudnick and Ernesto Gonzalez are both Vagos members and Cesar Villagrana is a member of the Hells Angels. All are charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Hells Angels San Jose Chapter President Jeffrey "Jethro" Pettigrew.
During Tuesday's hearing, the prosecution brought in four witnesses to testify about the risk of witness intimidation in this case.
Judge Connie J. Steinheimer was hoping to rule on whether to release the confidential names of the witnesses, but she decided not to rule on anything on this day.
The courthouse was filled with more Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies than usual. Eleven remained in the courtroom during the hearing and there were several more out in the hall.
