The winter weather has forced many drivers into safety mode. Thanks to the latest snow storm, tire stores like Les Schwab have recently seen a big increase in sales.
"A lot more people with the weather coming on, it's a safety thing. We've probably had a couple extra hundred people come in over the last few days at least coming in to get their snow tires," says Les Schwab Assistant Manager Cory Willis.
Snow tires offer more traction than regular all-season tires, but there's another option for those that want a less expensive alternative.
One unique service that Les Schwab offers is called Siping. Now, think of tires like the soles of your shoes. If you don't have tread on your shoes, you're likely going to slip and if you don't have traction on your tires, you're going to skid.
"It's after market cuts in the tire that gives you more fingers, more biting edges in the tires. So it does help with traction in the winter time, it can keep the tire cooler in the summertime, it's a multiple benefit," says Les Schwab Assistant Manager Cory Willis.
The weather matters whether you've got sipened tires, snow tires, or just the ones from the factory. Regular checkups are key especially around this time of year.
"It definitely depends on driving conditions and habits, I mean you just need to check your tread coming in any time, any tire store can check them for you," says Les Schwab Assistant Manager Cory Willis.
