RENO, Nev. (AP) - A national recreation coalition is honoring a
Reno-based group that has been instrumental in construction of a
bike trail along the Truckee River.
The Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway is one of eight projects nationally to
receive a design and construction award from the Coalition for
Recreational Trails recognizing the best use of federal trail grants.
Janet Phillips, president and founder of the non-profit group, plans to travel to Washington D.C. next month to receive the award at a ceremony on Capitol Hill.
The group has worked to open 32 miles of the trail to the public over the last seven years.
Future plans call for it to run all 116 miles of the river from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake.
