A heated argument between neighbors in Tahoe leads to shots fired and one man dead Saturday night.

According to South Lake Tahoe Police around 9:30 p.m., several people began calling 911 to report a shooting in the area of Brockway Avenue near the intersection of Rubicon Trail.

As officers responded to the area, at least one witness reported a man shot at another man during an argument outside a home. The intended victim, a neighbor of the shooter, was not struck or injured, and was quickly identified by officers responding to the scene.

The neighbor stated the incident started as a neighbor dispute. He told police he had confronted the suspect at his doorstep to discuss his car being damaged. The suspect drew a revolver and aimed it at the neighbor who immediately turned and began to run away. He then heard one shot fired as he made his escape. The victim and witnesses believed the suspect may have fled the immediate area on foot.

South Lake Tahoe Police Officers were assisted by El Dorado County Sheriff’s Deputies and CHP officers with setting up a perimeter and a K9 track for the suspect. While officers were establishing this perimeter around the crime scene and searching for the suspect, he ran into the street on Rubicon Trail, in the presence of officers, and shot himself in the head. The suspect has been confirmed deceased at the scene. Officers conducted a protective sweep through the suspect’s residence to confirm there are no other victims.

A preliminary investigation is still underway. It appears at this time a total of two shots were fired by the suspect. Officers have not yet accounted for the location of the first round fired by the suspect. There are no additional outstanding suspects and the public is in no further jeopardy related to the circumstances of this case.

Because facts are still developing in this investigation, police are not yet releasing the identity of the neighbor in this incident. The identity of the suspect will be released at a later time by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s/Coroner’s Office.

The case is being investigated by South Lake Tahoe Police Detectives. Any witnesses or those with pertinent information related to this matter are encouraged to call SLTPD at 530-542-6100 and refer to case number 1301-0592
