RENO, NV - Reno police have made an arrest in a stabbing Wednesday night.
It happened around 8PM June 25, 2014, at a motel at 303 W 2nd Street.
Police found a 50-year-old man who had sustained at least one stab wound to the chest. According to a news release, Officer Chris Caprioli immediately determined he was not breathing and had no pulse, and so began advanced life support techniques by doing chest compressions on the injured man. Officer Kent Laskin arrived on scene to assist Caprioli and the injured man by positioning the man’s head to open his airway.
Police say after approximately 20 chest compressions, the officers noticed the injured man's jaw began to move and his chest was rising and he was now breathing on his own. REMSA medics arrived a short time later and transported the man to a hospital. The man regained consciousness at the hospital and is listed in stable condition.
The victim’s girlfriend initially reported he was stabbed by a stranger who then fled the area.
Police say upon investigation, it was determined the girlfriend had actually stabbed him during a domestic dispute.
The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Heather Claire Gallagher. She was arrested and booked into the Washoe County jail for battery with a deadly weapon and domestic battery.
