Stolen Car Prompts Manhunt, School Lockdowns

RENO, NV - Authorities are still looking for the man who stole a car from a local home Tuesday morning, prompting a manhunt and lockdowns at three local schools.

It all began with a car being left running in the driveway of a home in the Zolezzi area. The thief apparently jumped into the car and drove off, the victim following in another vehicle on Foothill Road.

Apparently realizing he was being followed the thief stopped the car, jumped out and ran.

Sheriff's deputies responding to the scene launched a manhunt in the area of the south Truckee Meadows, the department's Raven helicopter searching from the air.

That prompted lockdowns at Picollo and Lenz Elementary Schools and Bishop Manogue High School.

After a couple of hours searching the manhunt was terminated. The suspected, described as a white male in his mid-30's with a shaved head, remains at large.

A spokesman for the Sheriff's office says leaving an unattended car running, though common this time of year, is illegal in Washoe County. Also common, he says, are these types of car thefts.
