RENO, NV - Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation (DETR), continues to offer a free service for residents and businesses in Northern and Southern Nevada to hire temporary workers on the spot. Each day, numerous workers show up to the Day Labor Offices and wait for work assignments.
The majority of workers are available to do odd jobs, such as yard work and moving said Renee Olson, administrator for DETR’s Employment Security Division.
“Most people today have more chores than time, so the Day Labor Office is a convenient way for them to work through that long to-do list or complete a short-term project they’ve wanted to tackle,” Olson said. “At the Day Labor office, workers are on-site, ready, and willing to go to work at a moment’s notice. There is never a fee for helping find laborers. The person who hires the workers pays them directly.”
As Nevada continues to experience record unemployment, currently at 12.6 percent, the number of workers willing to accept temporary work has increased, said DETR Director Frank R. Woodbeck.
“Using the Day Labor Offices is not only a way for individuals and businesses to get affordable help with their projects, but it is also a way for them to support Nevada’s economy, by giving workers an opportunity to earn much needed money while they search for permanent fulltime work,” Woodbeck said.
Workers may be hired by the hour, day or week. The Day Labor offices are open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. To schedule workers for weekend jobs, please call before 10 a.m. on Fridays.
