SPARKS, Nev.--For the 14th year in a row, the skies over John Ascuaga's Nugget will ignite will patriotism this Fourth of July.
Organizers announced plans for Star Spangled Sparks on Thursday, including a few new additions.
The event will start on the morning of the fourth at the Sparks Marina. There will be balloon rides, a family fun run, and a sparks idol singing competition.
Events then move to the Nugget at 4pm with live entertainment, a kids fun area and the singing of star spangled banner. It all culminates after dark with huge fireworks show.
"We ended up structuring the fire works show off the towered and out of the UP rail yard and it really kind gives this multi dimensional fireworks show especially if you're on Victorian square. Your right underneath it you get to feel the impact of the fireworks. It's been a home run," said Stephen Ascuaga of John Ascuaga's Nugget.
The fireworks will be shot off of both towers of the Nugget and they will mirror each other. They will be set to music that will be broadcast over KOH radio.
More people than last year are expected to pack Victorian Square for the festivities, about 25 to 30 thousand.
Last year, the fire works were delayed for several hours because of high winds which caused fire danger
The same could happen this year, but Sparks Mayor Geno Martini made a proclamation, saying that there will be no wind on the fourth. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
