ELKO, Nev. (AP) - A high school student in Elko County is one of 30 nationwide selected to serve as a page in the U.S. Senate this year.

Spring Creek High junior Kyler Voegele has been assigned to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. He started his position over the weekend and will work for the Nevada Democrat through June 7.

Voegele told the Elko Daily Free Press he first became interested in politics when he was in sixth grade during the 2008 presidential election.

Each page receives a $25,000 stipend and Voegele hopes to save some for college. He'll attend the U.S. Senate Page School from 6 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. each week day so as not to interfere with his official duties.
