SPARKS, Nev.- This week, Sparks City Council amended the city code - basically outlining the steps the city would need to take in order to clean up a property that's not up to code.
In the past, the city has contacted owners about the properties, but this can be troublesome when the owner does not live in the area or does not respond accordingly.
Now, the city will be able to take difficult cases to the City Council - which can then approve for the city to go into such a home and abate the problem.
The updated nuisance code also enables the city to levy a special assessment against a property to recoup the city's cost of abating the problem.
