SPARKS, NV -- Sparks Police arrested 25-year-old Sparks resident Blake Maldonado late Friday night after he led an officer on a high-speed chase with a child in the car.

Police officials tell KOLO 8 News Now that the officer attempted to pull Maldonado over when he saw the car driving faster than 70 miles an hour in a 25 zone on Victorian Avenue. Maldonado failed to stop when the officer turned on his lights, so the officer had to turn on the sirens as well.

When the car finally stopped on Victorian and 5th Street, the officer found Maldonado driving, 32-year-old Sparks resident Daniel Villanobos with an open container of alcohol, and a five-year-old boy inside the vehicle.

Maldonado now faces reckless driving, DUI, eluding, and child endangerment charges. Villanobos was cited and released. The child was unharmed. He was turned over to an adult family member who came to pick him up.

Police officials remind drivers to be careful when driving and to always be aware of their surroundings.
