SPARKS, NV - Sparks police are investigating a case of one shot fired inside the Century 14 movie theaters, calling it an accident.
Several calls were made to police around 8:40pm Tuesday, with some callers saying seven to eight shots had been fired inside the theater.
Investigators tell KOLO 8 News Now when they arrived on scene, they discovered only one man was shot, and he wasn't there. He had driven himself to the hospital.
The subject is a 56-year-old Sparks resident.
Police also say, contrary to initial calls, there was only one shot fired in the theater. Witnesses tell police he was adjusting himself in his seat when a gun he took in to the theater went off.
Police say he then got up and apologized to those around him and left.
Sparks police say there was no panic in the theater as only 5 people heard the shot out of the approximate 30 people in attendance.
The man was later found at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the buttocks. His injuries aren't life-threatening.
Sparks police say the man does have a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon, but it wasn't in a holster.
When the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the City Attorneys' Office for possible charges related to the discharging of the firearm within the city limits.
