Sparks Gets Ready for Tree Lighting and Parade

SPARKS, Nev. SPARKS, NV - The city of Sparks is kicking off its celebration of the Christmas season with a tree lighting and parade.

The events start Friday, December 6 at 6:30pm when Mayor Geno Martini will light the city tree. This tree comes from our Sister City in Garibaldi, Oregon.

Then on Saturday, the Hometowne Christmas Parade will go through Victorian Square. This is the 27th year for the event. The theme of this years' parade is "Celebrating 150 Years of Nevada Heritage."

Reno teen Hannah Hoobyar will be at the parade collecting teddy bears for child victims of recent midwest storms.

There are road closures involved. Starting at 6pm on Friday Victorian Avenue between 10th Street and Pyramid Way will be closed until 8pm.

Then on Saturday, from 6am - 6pm Victorian Avenue between 11th Street and Pyramid Way will be closed. From 6:00 am to 5:00 pm, Victorian Avenue westbound between Pyramid Way and 4th Street will be closed.

From 11:30 am to 3:00 pm, Victorian Avenue between 11th Street and 14th Street will be closed.

There is free parking at the garage on 10th and C Street and by the movie theater. Neighborhood parking may be utilized on any street not reserved for parade staging.

Parade staging will take place from 4th to Pyramid on Wright Way, C street, D Street, E Street and F Street.

The parking lots in front of the Nugget will be closed for parade off-loading and horse trailers.
