SPARKS, NV - A state of emergency has been declared in Sparks, a paperwork move that gives the city the power to spend the money it will take to fix two sewage pipes placed deep underground.

No one was hurt and there was no leak when the pipes, used to move sewage to a treatment facility, broke last week.

The cause of the break hasn't been determined, but so far, cold weather isn't being blamed. City spokesman Adam Mayberry says the pipes may just have been so old, they started falling apart.

There's no word yet how long a fix will take or how much it will cost. The city will spend a week to ten days to work up estimates. Stopgap measures took care of the problem temporarily last week.
