RENO, Nev. -- People across the Truckee Meadows and other valleys on the eastern side of the Sierra woke up to a blanket of snow Saturday morning. This was the first measurable snow in many areas.
Saturday morning valley roadways were littered with car accidents. Some were minor inconveniences with nothing more significant than scratched bumpers; others sent people to the hospital or tied up traffic for hours.
The previous, unusually warm weather combined with Thursday's wind storms left some people with only one day to get fallen autumn leaves picked up before the snow fell.
In mountain communities, people reported getting several inches of snow in just a few hours on Saturday morning. Near the airport in Truckee, one person told KOLO 8 News Now that about six inches of snow accumulated between sun-up and about 10:30am.
