RENO, NV - A major response by Reno firefighters Friday night to the Federal Courthouse because of a small electrical fire.
Because the Thompson Federal Building is a high-rise, Reno Fire has a strategic response for such calls. Four engines, a ladder truck and other personnel were sent shortly after seven o’clock with each engine team having a specific task. The one crew which ended up on the fourth floor found the fire. It ended up a fluorescent lighting ballast was smoking in the hall.
While the ballast was smoking, Reno Fire officials say the smoke detectors didn’t activate. A security guard called it in, Reno Fire says, because he must have seen the smoke.
Fire crews put the fire out, and cleared the scene within an hour.
Fire officials say the private security contractor is going to investigate why the smoke detector didn’t activate, since a recent test of the system didn’t have any problems.
