CARSON CITY, NV - Carson City sheriff's detectives are looking for two men who tried to burglarize a home early Tuesday morning, then had gunfire aimed at them.

Sheriff Ken Furlong says about 4AM, deputies were called to a home on Old Clear Creek Road, in a remote region between Carson City and Spooner Summit. The man who lives there says a white man, about six feet tall and wearing an orange jumpsuit, identified himself as a gas utility worker searching for the origin of a gas leak.

The resident got suspicious, since there is no gas in the area, and got a gun. He found the man in a Jeep parked in front of the home's garage doors and front door porch. The men talked before the apparent attempted burglar jumped in the Jeep and tried to get away, crashing into a nearby property.

The resident fired his gun during the exchange, but no one was hit.

Deputies who arrived found evidence of two people at the scene and both ran into the surrounding mountains south of the Clear Creek area. In daylight hours, Carson City and Douglas County units were assisted by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office RAVEN helicopter, combing over the rough mountainous terrain. The men were not found.

The vehicle is a black Jeep Cherokee that had been reported stolen January 16, 2013. The Nevada license plates were reported stolen on January 19, 2013.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the men in this burglary is encouraged to contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 887-2500, or Secret Witness at 322-4900 if they wish to remain anonymous.
