San Francisco Wants Answers About Nevada Mental Health Patients

Is one of Nevada's largest mental health facilities "dumping" patients in other states?
It is a question that the City Attorney in San Francisco wants answered by top state officials.
The Sacramento Bee is reporting that San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera has opened a formal investigation into the practices of Rawson-Neal Hospital in Las Vegas.
A Bee investigation details how the facility bused roughly 1,500 patients to other cities and states between July of 2008 and March of this year.
Herrera has sent a letter to Nevada's Department of Health and Human Services demanding the state turn over documents related to the discharging of mental patients to Greyhound buses and transporting them across the country.
The letter was copied to Governor Sandoval and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto.
Herrera said his city will seek compensation from Nevada if it determines that "patient dumping" resulted in improper transfers of patients to San Francisco.
