Reno, NV - It was a fun race to the finish line for Westergard Elementary School students on Wednesday morning. About 700 students took part in the Wildcat Dash. The one-mile run near the school was a fundraiser that the kids enjoyed taking part in. Reno Police officers shut down nearby streets in Northwest Reno so that the children could run through them safely.
"We were looking to do an alternative to selling things and trying to get our kids healthier, something active, fitness. And yeah, the run turned out fabulous," said Allison Gorelick, a parent who helped organize the event.
The students got sponsored by family and friends. The event ended up raising more than $37,000.
"Our big goal here was to turn our field green again," said Gorelick. "We had just a brown field. And we're repaving our whole school playground area and we bought white boards for all the classrooms and now we're trying to get computers in all of the classrooms and get new computer systems for our library."
