SPARKS, NV - A Sunday night game at Sparks High School led to two arrests after a concession stand was held up and another man was found with drugs.
Around 9:30 p.m., Sun., Sparks Police officers responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at Sparks High School, 820 15th St.
When officers arrived they found that there had been a Hispanic youth soccer league playing a game inside the Sparks High gym. Two suspects had taken money from a concession stand that was operating at the game. When workers from the concession stand confronted the two suspects, 18-year-old Victor Lopez threatened the concession workers with a gun.
Bystanders saw Lopez with the gun and tackled him. He was detained until police arrived.
The second suspect is still on the loose and is described as a light-skinned Hispanic male, approximately 18-24 years of age, wearing a hooded sweatshirt. He was last seen running southbound on 15th street.
Lopez was arrested on charges of robbery with a gun, possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds, and carrying a concealed weapon. His bail was set at $17,465.
Sparks Dispatch did receive information that during the robbery, shots had been fired. However, on further investigation this was determined not to be true. Arrests do not stop here though.
As officers were setting up a perimeter for this call, they observed a man who was similar in description to the outstanding suspect. Offices attempted to stop the guy, but he ran. He was taken into custody after police chased him for several blocks.
The fleeing man has been identified as 30-year-old Daniel Benton. He was determined not to be involved in the robbery. However, he was arrested and charged with obstructing an officer, possession of a hypodermic device and possession of marijuana. He also had a hold placed on him by Parole and Probation.
The investigation into the robbery is continuing. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Sparks Police Detectives at 353-2225 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
