RENO, Nev. (AP) - A 47-year-old Nevada trapper who wildlife officials say continues to thumb his nose at state law has been fined $1,000 for illegally trapping a bobcat and a young bighorn sheep last October - his fourth violation in four years.
Clint Felton of Fallon was convicted in New River Justice Court on Friday of failing to check his trap lines at least once every 96 hours.
Nevada Chief Game Warden Rob Buonamici says it's the seventh time Felton has broken the law aimed at minimizing animal suffering since he first was convicted in 1991. He says the bighorn lamb and the bobcat probably died of exposure after spending more than four days in the steel, leg-hold traps in the Stillwater Mountains.
A Fallon telephone listing in Felton's name has been disconnected.
