RENO, Nev. (AP) - The city of Reno is developing a proposed ordinance requiring glass pipes and bongs to be hidden from minors
at convenience stores and smoke shops.
City officials say it already is illegal to sell drug paraphernalia. But they say store owners get around the ban through a loophole that allows the sale of such items if they post a sign that says they are for tobacco and can't be used illegally.
The proposed ordinance would require businesses to obtain a special permit to sell the "simulated drug paraphernalia." In addition to pipes, they'd be banned from openly displaying scales and balances, bowls, small spoons, small bags and pipe screens.
The ordinance hasn't yet been scheduled for consideration. A public comment period closed Dec. 31.
