RENO, Nev. (AP) - A northern Nevada company has agreed to pay
$50,000 to a black driver to settle a federal racial harassment and
retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity
Michael Scales worked as a driver for Sierra Restroom Solutions, a supplier of onsite portable toilets. The company has since been sold.
In its complaint, the EEOC said Scales was subjected to racial slurs by a supervisor and taunts by white employees. In one instance, the EEOC says a co-worker flaunted a swastika tattoo and talked about keeping the white race "pure."
The lawsuit said Scales was fired after complaining twice in one
month about the treatment.
The EEOC announced the settlement on Tuesday.
