RENO, Nev. (AP) - A Reno filmmaker who documented the stories of orphaned children in Kenya has won Nevada's coveted film award.

Matthew Schultz' hour-long film, "The Roots of Happiness," took Best Nevada Film at the Nevada International Film Festival held earlier this month.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Schultz joined 10 people in 2010 on a trip with the Think Kindness organization to a children's home in Kenya. Think Kindness is a nonprofit organization started in Reno to encourage random acts of kindness. Founder Brian Williams took shoes to the youths.

The film now has won six awards this year, including three international awards and best documentary director at the Colorado Film Festival.
