RENO, Nev. (AP) - A 39-year-old Reno man has been declared not
guilty by reason of insanity in the killings of his parents and the
attempted slaying of his brother.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports a judge ruled earlier this week in the case of Eyward Pereyra, who was charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in the August 2010 attacks.
Authorities say Pereyra fatally stabbed his 66-year-old mother
Rosalind and his 72-year-old father Jose at their Reno home. Police
say he also stabbed his older brother Reynald, who was trying to
stop the attack.
Court records show Pereyra was being treated for mental illness
at the time of the killings.
A judge is set to decide Oct. 3 whether Pereyra should stay a
state mental hospital for criminals.
