RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Reno City Council will consider a proposed $330,200 payment to settle a lawsuit filed by Deputy Police Chief Dave Evans.
Evans was placed on paid administrative leave in August 2012 after a surreptitiously recorded conversation surfaced that featured him giving advice to then police Sgt. James Stegmaier on how to deal with an internal affairs investigation against him.
Evans advised Stegmaier to tell investigators about other allegations against his supervising lieutenant, saying "she needs to go down."
A police tribunal recommended Evans be fired based on the recorded conversation, but Evans sued to stop his termination.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the city council will consider the proposed settlement on Wednesday.
Evans' salary, including benefits, is $170,000 annually.
Stegmaier has since left the force.
