The Reno City Council held its Strategic Planning Session on Tuesday, beginning the budget planning process and establishing priorities, including communication and citizen engagement, efficient city services, neighborhood safety and promoting the city's economy.
Preparation for the session included surveying Reno's community leaders, city employees and residents while looking at practices of successful cities by looking at their vision and mission statements.
The Council participated in a "visioning segment," discussing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threat analysis and establishing key strategic priorities.
The Council developed a vision statement setting offering "exceptional quality of life, culture, and a vibrant, diverse economy," for Reno according to a city press release. The Council also developed a mission statement, offering to "efficiently provide the highest level of services responsive to our community and to enhance the quality of life and economic vitality."
"This was the best strategic planning session I've participated in over the last 10 years," said Reno Mayor Bob Cashell as he closed the planning session.
