WASHINGTON -- In response to the Iowa Republican Party Chair Matt Strawn’s comments demeaning Nevada’s 3rd in the nation early vote status, Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement:

“Nevada may be a ‘newcomer’ to the early voting process, but the outdated nomination calendar needed a reality check. The West deserves to have a voice in choosing the President of the United States and Nevadans are prepared to carry that mantle next year, four years after that, and so on. My message to Iowa Republicans is this: back off Nevada.”

Iowa GOP chair Strawn released the following comments today:

“I will do everything in my power on the RNC to hold Florida accountable for creating this mess, but the culpability for creating a compressed January calendar does not end there. The actions of early state newcomer Nevada have also exacerbated this problem and unnecessarily crowded the January calendar. Time remains for Nevada to respect the process, honor tradition and rectify the problem in a way that will restore order to the nomination calendar.”
