RENO, Nev. (AP) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says Democrats won't have a party-backed candidate to run against Republican Rep. Mark Amodei in 2014, but he's not ready to surrender the governor's race to incumbent Republican Brian Sandoval.

Reid says party-backed Democrats have run for the 2nd Congressional District seat a few times dating back to the 1990s, but no Democrat has ever won since the district centered around northern Nevada was created in the early 1980s.

He told the Reno Gazette-Journal that he has "a lot of priorities and right now finding someone to run against Amodei is not one of them."

As for the governor's race, Reid says the election is a year away and people "should stand down and wait and see what develops."

Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak is the only prominent Democrat to show any interest in the governor's race so far.

Reid gave his blessing to Assemblywoman Lucy Flores of Las Vegas to be Democrat's choice for lieutenant governor.
