RENO, NV - It's time to put your culinary skills to the test.
"Savor the Season" is a year-long recipe contest presented by The Western Nevada College Specialty Crop Institute and NevadaGrown - Home Means Delicious.
The contest allows home chefs to learn about locally-grown, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and other foods, and submit a favorite recipe using all, or one, of the foots for a chance to win.
Each month in the "Food" section, The Reno Gazette-Journal features a selection of the top "Savor the Season" recipes.
These recipes will be compiled into a NevadaGrown cookbook to be printed in 2014.
Each chef whose recipe is featured in the "Food" section will receive a complimentary copy of the cookbook, and at the end of the promotion, will be eligible to win a seven-cubic-foot freezer filled with $300 worth of meat or produce provided by Nevada Farms.
The campaign is designed to educate the community about the benefits of eating both locally and seasonally.
