Prison Time for Woman Who Stole Human Ashes

RENO, NV - A woman who pleaded guilty to stealing human ashes has been sentenced to five-to-twenty years in prison.

41-year-old Meredith O'Flaherty was sentenced to the Nevada State Prison by Judge Scott Freeman. O'Flaherty is considered an habitual criminal, with several felony convictions already on her record going back to 1995.

Police arrested O'Flaherty after being caught driving a stolen car in the days after July's burglary. They recovered the ashes and returned them to the family.

The case was investigated by the Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program, comprised of detectives from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments.
