Presidents' Day Weekend a Boost for Retailers

SPARKS, NV - A combination of nice weather and Presidents' Day sales brought droves of shoppers to Legends in Sparks on Sunday.

"Our store has been very busy," Styles for Less sales associate Amanda Mussell said. "we're very happy to see all the customer shopping and right now we have our buy one, get one going on, we also have our 10% VIP program."

Down the way at Old Farmer's Almanac General Store, signs offered merchandise at up to 75% off.

"It's been really busy, especially outside iin the complex," visual manager Mary Bedow said. "It's always a big weekend, not as big as Black Friday but definitely busier than normal weekends."

Less crowds - but possibly better deals. According to www.shopittome.com, the average Presidents Day discount is 46.7 % off. The average Black Friday discount is 42.1 percent off.

"We have a lot of Disney collectibles on sale, a lot of platters, plates, a little bit of everything in the store," General Store sales associate Allan Anderson said. "It's a long weekend so we know we'll have a lot of people coming into the store today and tomorrow."

Best Buy was promoting its appliances and computers.

"We have 15%-30% off our major appliances and free data transfer when you buy a premium laptop," Geek Squad Manager Chelsea Galloway said. "Business has been really good today and everyones been amazing checking out all these great deals."

And a lot of those deals are good through the end of the week.

"That way you can come in today, have some time to think about it then come back and make your final purchase," Galloway said.
