RENO, NV — The Verdi Post Office is closed until further notice as a result of a fire on Christmas Day.
All mail addressed to a Verdi office will be sorted and delivered out of Peavine Station, located at 1580 Grandpoint Way in Reno, approximately 6 miles away from the Verdi Office.
All retail mailing services can be accomplished at Peavine. The next nearest full-service Post Office is at 1490 Stardust St. in Reno.
While parcels can be picked up immediately, box mail won’t be available for pickup until Wednesday afternoon. Mail will be available for pickup between 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. A photo identification will be required.
While no mail was lost to the fire, the mail that was recovered may have a smoke odor. No mail remains in the Verdi station and it is currently being surveyed by fire, police, insurance and safety officials to determine the short and long-term disposition of the building.
“I’m grateful to the first responders who came out on Christmas morning,” said Verdi Postmaster Marjorie Grizzle.
“We’ve had great support from postal management and especially our employees, who are working through some difficult circumstances. Our customers have been so understanding and sympathetic,” she said.
“It’s going to be a long process and their patience is especially appreciated.”
The outgoing mailbox at Verdi has been pulled, but stamped mail can be dropped at the collection box at Boomtown Casino, on Garson Road.
In addition, at www.usps.com, anyone can buy stamps, purchase postage for packages, and submit a request for Free Package Pickup from their home or office.
