UPDATE: An eyewitness has described hearing noises similar to fireworks before seeing police outside with their guns drawn on a car.

The witness also says a man and a woman were taken out of the car and into custody and that a third male was dead inside.

Police are not saying whether gunfire was exchanged or if it was just the officer who shot. It is being investigated as an officer-involved-shooting. Since it involved an RPD officer, the investigation will be taken over by either Sparks PD or Washoe County Sheriff's Office.

They also won't say what caused the incident in the first place.
