Sparks police have reopened an area near Mendive Middle School after police activity Monday afternoon.

SPARKS, NV - Sparks police have reopened an area near Mendive Middle School after police activity Monday afternoon.

Neighbors say it appears a man upset about a divorce was threatening to set a house on fire, in addition to threatening his family members.

Police are identifying that man as 42-year-old Edward Joseph Long.

Over the course of the afternoon, Long surrendered to police to sort out the situation near the intersection of Spring Blossom Lane and Red Leaf Court. A SWAT team was there and as a precaution, police were asking people to stay away.

Long was booked at the Washoe County Jail for Threats/Harassment and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His bail was set at $15,000 cash only.

Washoe School District officials say Mendive and nearby Deidrichson Elementary were unaffected, as school was out for the day.
