RENO, Nev. -- A doctoral student at UNR is putting a unique spin on his field of study. Benjamin Witts is getting his PhD in behavior analysis, and he is using zombies as a teaching tool in his classes.
His “How to Train Your Zombie” program introduces complex topics in an easy-to-relate-to way. Witts says it is a great way to get people talking about the subject, and it’s creating a buzz around the country… even internationally.
"The reception has been great,” Witts says. “This year I was invited to go to Sacramento State University to give the lecture. It went over really well. We have requests for the presentation coming from Ireland, all over the US, and hopefully I should be getting some more feedback soon on how it went."
Witts teamed up with another behavior analysis graduate student, Carolyn Brayko, to complete the program. Brayko drew the zombie illustrations. Witts says there is talk of a zombie training book in the future.
Witts hopes to graduate from the UNR Behavior Analysis PhD program this coming spring. The Behavior Analysis program is part of the UNR Psychology Department and offers Master's and Doctoral programs of study.
