SPARKS, NV - Sparks police say about 8:30 p.m. Monday, they responded to the area of Galletti Way and the railroad tracks which cross that street following a report that a train had struck a pedestrian.

The victim, a 26-year-old Reno resident, was transported by REMSA to Renown Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Initially, the injuries were thought to be minor. However, upon further examination by hospital personnel, the injuries required hospitalization. His name is being withheld.

It is unclear if the pedestrian was actually struck by the locomotive or if he had fallen prior to the locomotive passing him. Police believe that alcohol consumption on the part of the pedestrian may be a factor in the incident.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Sparks Police Department at 353-2231.
