Elderly Pedestrian Struck Twice in a Crosswalk

RENO, NV- An elderly pedestrian is dead after being hit by muliple vehicles in downtown Reno. Drugs may be a factor.

According to police shortly after 5:30pm, Saturday, 71-year-old Charles Heinemann of Senora, California, was crossing N. Virginia St. at 8th Street on a green light in the crosswalk, when a driver exiting the freeway turning southbound on N. Virginia St. and hit him.

The driver, 20-year-old Cesar Bernal-Cuadra, is suspected of being under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident.

Heinemann was hit again when a second driver failed to see him. He was transported to Renown where he succumbed to his injuries.

Both drivers were cooperative with the investigation. Bernal-Cuadra was booked for DUI Causing Death and Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian.

Police have not released the identitiy of the second driver in this accident.

The accident is still being investigated.
