RENO, Nev. – PETA has a new billboard and the organization says the billboard is going up near Reno public schools.
The billboard features an animal that looks like a cross between a dog and a turkey and reads “Kids: If You Wouldn't Eat Your Dog, Why Eat a Turkey?”.
PETA claims the message is meant to spark a dialog between parents and children.
PETA Executive Vice President Tracey Reiman says “Kids love animals, and if they thought about how turkeys feel pain and fear just as dogs and cats do, they'd trade in their drumsticks for Tofurkey in a heartbeat.” Reiman is encouraging families to eat vegan for Thanksgiving.
The organization tells KOLO 8 News Now they are working with Blue Line Media and Clear Channel Outdoor to purchase billboard space near schools.
Both companies declined to comment on where those billboards might be located.
Similar billboards will be going up in Sacramento and Boise.
