RENO, NV - A major accident on Mt Rose Highway kills one and seriously injures three teens Monday night.

Authorities believe speed and alcohol may have contributed to the cause of the accident when 18-year-old Justin Sigstand's truck skidded off Mt Rose Highway and hit a tree near Douglas Fir Drive.

Deputies found four occupants at the scene of the accident, three males and one female, 16-17 years of age, all with substantial injuries. Two passengers were transported to a local hospital for further examination and treatment. One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) was called out to continue the investigation.

The accident investigation is ongoing; however, preliminary reports indicate speed and alcohol may be contributing factors.

Due to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), authorities are prohibited from releasing information on the three juveniles involved in this accident and their medical conditions thereafter.

The deceased person's family has respectfully requested that their child's name not be released and the Sheriff's Office will be honoring their wishes.

Anyone with further information is requested to call the Sheriff's Office Patrol Division at 328-3350 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
