SPARKS, Nev. -- One teenager is in custody and police are searching for two more young people after a shooting in Sparks.

It happened a few minutes before midnight near Rail City. A Sparks Police officer saw someone fire a gun from a moving car. The officer tried to pull the car over using lights and sirens but the car got away into a neighborhood east of Sullivan Lane. At one point, one of the suspects threw the gun from the car.

The driver stopped in the 1100 block of 20th St. and all three people inside got out and ran north, farther into the neighborhood. That is when Sparks Police deployed a police dog.

Officers arrested one suspect, a 17-year-old Reno resident, and started a yard-to-yard search for the other two suspects. A second K9 was even called in but the suspects were not found. Officers did find the gun that was thrown from the car.

Police describe the two suspects who got away as "Latino males in their late teens to early twenties."

Sparks Police Department officials say they "would like to thank the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office as well as Reno Police Department for assisting during the search."

If you have any more information about the shooting or any of the suspects, please call the Sparks Police Department at (775) 353-2225 or contact Secret Witness.
