SPARKS, Nev. -- Several people in at least two Sparks neighborhoods reported seeing a mountain lion in residential areas Saturday.

The reports began at about 2pm when the animal was spotted near Pyramid and Queen. Later, around 6pm, neighbors near Baring and Goldy began reporting seeing the large cat.

Sparks Police officers responded to the 1000 block of Pinewood Avenue in an attempt to locate the mountain lion. Despite checking several yards in the neighborhood, they could not find it.

The mountain lion was last seen walking eastbound near Baywood Drive.

Sparks Police Department officials want to urge residents in those neighborhoods to be cautious. They would also like to remind everyone not to approach or handle any wild animals. If you see a potentially dangerous wild animal in a residential area, you can call Sparks Police at (775) 353-2231 or the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
