RENO, Nev. -- The family and friends of a northern Nevada woman and four children killed in a house fire in Oklahoma are trying to help with final expenses.
According to family friends, Jeanine Bonnet grew up in Yerington and later moved to Hawthorne. In recent years, she lived in Oklahoma City with her children.
On December 26th, Jeanine and four children were killed in a house fire, according to KWTV in Oklahoma City. Natalie Leon (age 8), Samantha Leon (age 7), and Mathew Leon (age 5), and Kara Leon (age 3) all died in the fire.
KWTV reports investigators ruled the fire an accident caused by a space heater. The home had no working smoke detectors. Bonnet's boyfriend, 39-year-old Brian Poletto, escaped the fire with serious burns and was hospitalized.
According to family friends, the children's father, Matthew Leon, did not live in the home and cannot afford funeral costs. A Facebook site, "Matthew Leon Childrens Memorial Fund", has been set up to help with donations and remembrances.
