RENO, NV - The Washoe County School Board is shortening summer vacation by two weeks. However, students will get a break in October, and more time off in spring and winter.

Educators hope the shorter summer vacation will mean students won't have to re-learn as much material when they return to class. The new calendar was developed based on parents' comments. The new calendar will begin for the 2013-2014 school year.

Intersession classes will also be offered during the longer breaks.
