RENO, NV - Nearly 17 hundred pieces of Nevada and western history are being sold at auction this weekend in Reno.

The items range from the only existing Earp family portrait to a miner's candlestick owned by Colorado magnate Horace Tabor to brothel tokens to beer bottles.

Many of the items were in every day use in the West 150 years ago. Today they can be worth thousands.

"They are investments in a lot of ways," says Ariana Patmas of Holabird-Kagin Americana, "but they are also tools to our past and I think the people who come here know that and respect that."

Total sales are expected to top $2 million.

The auction continues tomorrow morning at 10 at the Atlantis.

It is open and free to the public.
